Self-Tanning Techniques For Great Results

Everyone wants to get that healthy glow of a beautiful tan, but do not want to expose their skin to the damaging rays of the sun. You can get a great tan in the comfort of your own home that will look as natural as spending hours baking your skin in the sun. Use the tips below to get the gorgeous glow of a tan without the potential cancer the sun causes.

First and foremost, find a quality product. There are many different products on the market these days and the most difficult part of getting a self-tan is going to be finding the product that will give you the look you want. Spend time to research the products before purchasing any of them. You can find many real reviews online about the different products. Keep in mind that most expensive does not always mean the best product.

You need to exfoliate your skin about a day before you want to apply the self-tanner to your body. You want to eliminate any dead skin cells from the top layers of your skin. If you do not, you may end up with dark spots here and there where the dead skin has built up.

You do want to have hairless legs before applying the tanner. However, you do not want to apply the tanner immediately after shaving. Wait at least eight hours after shaving to apply the tanner. The follicles on your legs are going to be open after shaving which can allow the tanner to soak into them and create a poke-a-dotted look on your legs.

Use a quality moisturizer on your entire body. Your skin must be fully moisturized to get the even finish you want. It will help to apply the tanner easier and more evenly if your skin is evenly moisturized. Allow your moisturizer to soak into your skin for at least a half hour prior to applying the tanner.

Do not end up with extra tan hands. Wear rubber gloves as you apply the tanner to your body. If you do not, you will have palms that are quite a few shades darker than the rest of your body. Once you have applied the tanner to the rest of your body, do not forget to apply it to your hands.

Once you have the tanner applied, allow it to set for at least an hour. All tanners will have instructions on the bottle that you need to use to get the best result. Pay attention to how long the product recommends you let it dry before putting on any clothing. If it tells you to wait a half hour, give it a few extra minutes. You do not want to cause a streak because you were too impatient to allow it to set.

Taking the time to prepare your skin properly prior to applying the tanner will give you the look of natural tan more easily. It may seem like a lot of work, but you will enjoy the fact that you went through it once you walk out of your house looking like you spent a week at the beach, when in reality you never left your home.
